Solving the Wrong Problem

Reviewing lessons from my marriage, I have to reminisce on one particular story.

My wife and I were newly married and she had bought some creep furniture peaces that I was asked to put together.

As I was assembling the unit I noticed I had made a mistake. Laurie promptly noticed my blunder. She asked “could you please fix that.” I responded “yes, I can.”

She left the room and moments later found her husband dragging this unfinished project to the trash. Startled she hollered “I thought you said you would fix that.” “I am”
I responded, “I’m throwing it away.”

People have a knack for salving the wrong problem.

The main reason for this phenomenon is Laziness. When most people encounter problems the seek the first, easiest, and mist obvious way out.

There is an old saying that “a man who is good with a hammer will see every problem as a nail. The other factor to problem solving is that we each have dominate agendas and skill sets.

Having the ability to look beyond the first solution that comes to mind, and explore more pressing issues will open new arenas of possibility.
